The Political Career Of Ray Martin
Ray Martin is best known for being a member of the National Assembly and for being a known leader of Alberta's NDP party. Born on August 8 in 1941, he is easily known for being a popular player in the political arena of Alberta.
His home town on in Delia in Alberta is where he was born as well. He got his teacher's degree in Edmonton from the University of Alberta. While attending the school, he was also a known member of the fraternity Kappa Sigma.
After finishing his degree in education, he decided to pursue a master's degree. He was able to get this done by attending the University of Calgary. Later, he pursued the profession of a teacher before he started getting involved in politics.
ray martin was successfully installed as the new leader of the NDP in 1984 when he the former leader Grant Noley was involved in a fatal plane crash. During his leadership, he was able to help lead the party to victory during the polls in 1986.
As the leader of the opposition party in the legislature, he along with his party did the same feat during the 1989 election. However, the victory was made short in 1993 when he lost again A year later, he made a decision to leave his party.
Due to his political losses, he has decided to shift his attention away from the political spotlight. Instead, he has spent the years in 2001 to 2004 as a trustee of the Edmonton Public School Board. Aside from working as a consultant and a financial planner, he worked then as a political columnist as well.
After eleven years, Ray Martin was successfully able to return to the Legislative Assembly after winning a place in the 2004 election. He suffered defeat again on the year 2008 when he sought for reelection but he has announced that he will again be running for office on the 2011 federal election.
