Some History And The Benefits Of Undyed Yarn

By Essie Osborn

Before the industrial age, there were numerous limitations with regards to products. Since everything was handmade, it took time to make virtually everything, so they were very expensive. People often didn't have the funds available to fill their wardrobes with endless outfits, except for the affluent. So, many were sheep owners, and after they would shave down their sheep, they would spin the wool into yarn. In its raw state, it was undyed yarn and used in numerous applications.

Those who used it began to color it with dyes. They used natural color they got from vegetables mostly and created unique colors to make various accessories and clothes. Of course, as each batch was hand prepared, and with produce that was available, this dyed wool was always unique.

While it was the way of life long ago, it changed drastically over the 20th century, as machines and mass production took over. Still, there were those who enjoyed such projects, and others in rural areas who had no other choice continued these traditions. In cities, people ended up buying ready-made yarn, colored and all that they could knit into whatever they wanted. As the industrial age moved forward, even knitting was almost obsolete, as people opted to purchase their goods.

More and more people today want to reach back to the old ways and the way natural goods were produced. Mostly, it's because they prefer something completely natural and organic, free of harmful chemicals that so many of us are exposed to on a daily basis. These hobbyists prefer yarn raw because they can manipulate it in every way, from its shape and design to its future color.

Like this they have an entirely organic product and avoid harmful chemicals from coming in touch with their skin. What's interesting is that it's completely unique, which makes it that much more treasured. After it's dyed, it is knitted into something spectacular, according to the desire and need of the individual.

Imagine wearing something where there is no other item similar to it. That is the essence of uniqueness, and it brings a sense of feeling special. In addition to it being a hobby, others have turned this into a business. Some may take custom orders while others produce several pieces and make them available on the market either in brick-and-mortar stores, or online to reach a wider audience.

This catchy trend is growing in popularity every day. People like the warmth, the quality, the uniqueness, and the beauty of an all natural item like this. They also know that they will pay much more for it than they would if they bought a similar item that was mass-produced. They're prepared to pay more because of all the benefits it brings, plus it will last.

It's safe to say that handmade items like these are beautiful and provide numerous opportunities for mixing and matching with existing wardrobe pieces. They are suitable to both men and women, as well as children, as everyone wants good quality stylish clothes and accessories that keep them warm and looking great. Knitting all-natural goods is a wonderful skill that can be used on a personal or business level.
