Illinois Elections 2014 Race For Governor

By Lila Bryant

It has been a challenging time for Republicans in Illinois as they prepare for the upcoming elections.Since the 2010 elections in Illinois, democrats have dominated various elective posts ranging from that of the governor and to those in the legislature. As Illinois elections 2014 approach new legislative maps have come up which favor democratic contestants. The maps are making it more difficult for Republicans to win back their seats in the House of State and Senate. This has been a challenge that the party has been facing for the last several years.

These made Illinois Republicans eye more the 2014 elections for their governors. They saw it has an opportunity to ensure balance of power again in Springfield. It was also the quickest step the party could take so as to remain relevant in the country. The party is aiming more on getting governor. Pat Quinn, into the government. The figure on whom responsibility for Illinois will be pinned. They believe he will bring a solution to the increasing taxes, billions of unpaid bills, high rate of unemployment and the high credit rating in the state.

Republican has been aggressive and confident about the polls. Jack Dorgan the chairman of the party has stated categorically that their main target is getting back the governorship. The chairman of the party has consistently been confident the Illinois GOP is a big economic driver that will turn things around. They promise their voters that after voting them in they will be amazed at development that will take place in the state.

Even as the polls draw near Republican members have had disputes among themselves. One of the major contentious issue was deciding the best candidate for nomination among those that were contesting. Many republicans are of the view that Quinn could be the candidate to bring about transformational leadership and on to change the public opinion.

The party nominations have created a lot of tension. It has been extremely difficult to predict who could be the outright winner. Paul Green an analyst, director and professor of the University of Politics in Roosevelt states that Quinn has consistently ranked highly in campaigns and hence has a high probability of getting the position.

The few weeks before Republican primary March 18, the vying candidates had to convince voters that they will win the elections come November. These candidates include Kirk Dillard, Bill Brady, Treasurer Dan Rutherford and Bruce Rauner a businessman.

Brady who defeated Quinn in 2010 with more than 30000 votes claimed to be the suitable contestant for the position. Brady says he has experience because he has worked in the same office before. On the other hand Bloomington sees Quinn has a challenge because he has public recognition.

Rutherford of Chenoa states he has made it before and he will win again. He is among the few candidates who have won statewide; he received more than two million votes in previous election where he won the position of state treasurer. He refers to his service in Illinois Senate and House as the leadership that is required to turn the state around.
